Photographing a Wedding in a River: When Real Moments Matter More Than Perfect Conditions

Some wedding photographs stay with you — not because they were perfectly styled or carefully planned, but because they tell a true story. This image is one of those moments for me. The ceremony took place in a fabulous wedding venue, beside a small river in the New Forest. When the location was first tested, the water level was low and calm. But as the wedding day approached, heavy rain changed everything. By the time the ceremony began, the river had risen enough to flood the area where the couple and guests would stand. The couple loved the idea of a group picture, taken in the river ! Guests arrived wearing wellington boots, spirits were high, and the sense of occasion was stronger because of the shared experience. It wasn’t about pretending the conditions were perfect — it was about making the most of the moment. To photograph the ceremony properly, I stepped into the water myself. No shoes, no socks, trousers rolled up, standing barefoot in the river as the water continued to rise. It wasn’t a conscious decision at the time — it was simply what was needed to capture the picture as it unfolded, without distraction or

Advice for The Best Man!

Advice for The Best Man!

Advice for: The Best Man! Now this is a tricky subject and one that I had to cover sooner or Later. Buckle up here we go! If you are a Bride and read this, I hope you will agree with me If you are a Groom and read this, share it with your Best Man, believe me when I say you will thank me afterwards. If you are a Best Man and read this, remember where I am coming from, I have seen Grooms passed out before the Wedding breakfast and vomiting during the group shots and most times either the Best Man stopped looking out for the Groom or deliberately set him up. As the photographer, that makes things tricky for me and unknown to most people but if a Groom is nervous beforehand, they often ask me to watch out for them and I will. Story Time: I once found the Best Man at the bar spiking the Grooms drinks because he thought it would be funny, the Groom thought it was happening but didn’t want to be seen as not joining in. I spoke with the bar staff and the double vodkas being added to his pint

“Do you even need a Photographer at your Wedding?”

Question “Do you even need a Photographer at your Wedding?” A simple and uncomplicated answer is of course YES you do, but then I am a wedding photographer who loves photographing a wedding day, so what else could I say? This is after all, going to be a once in a lifetime event for you both, one that you have planned for years, invested a huge amount of both time and money preparing for, called in every favour you have and involved all of your family and friends. All to help you make the day perfect and you couldn’t not have a professional there to record every intricate detail and moment for prosperity, could you? One interesting thing that people overlook is that your photographer is likely to be the only professional outside of your entourage that will be with you from the very beginning of the day until the very end. We have seen everything, and we make a great resource for answering questions that you might have. Ask a wedding photographer, we will know the answer For some, their wedding day is an event, the photographer is very important, and I will often arrive the day before, introduce

Hello and Welcome to my Wedding Photography Blog

“Hello and Welcome to my Wedding Photography Blog” I have been contemplating what I should be putting in this blog for absolutely ages and what I have decided is that I am going to share with you in my own words, in my own style my 20+ years of experiences working as a Wedding Photographer. So, I am Robb Webb. I’ve been working as a Photographer for over 20 years and have a huge amount of experience that I’m really looking forward to sharing with as many of you as I can. So, if there’s anything you’d like to ask me, go for it, you don’t have to have booked me for your wedding but that might be nice, just leave a comment below. I intend to highlight the highs and lows and I am going to tell you stories, but I’m not going to name names (obviously) and hopefully I’m going to share some of that experience with you so that you get an idea of where the pitfalls are, what works and what doesn’t. If you’re not sure of something, ask me. There is so much going on behind the scenes of a Wedding Day that you couldn’t

Hello Devon

Hello Devon Hello Devon, in July 2022 I moved from Lymington in the New Forest to a small village near Tiverton in the beautiful county of Devon, somewhere I used to come on holiday too and now I live there. I would call that a successful move. In the New Forest I had built a successful photography business beginning in 2006, covering Weddings – Family Portraits – School Photographer at the Gurston Down Hillclimb School – The New Forest Show for seven years and the Pride event Bourne Free for three years, a residential school for children with Autism (one of the most challenging and rewarding jobs I have ever undertaken) and everything in between. Leaving the New Forest meant leaving the business and all my connections behind, but that was ok as I was moving to Devon, one of the most beautiful counties in the country. In the three years since I made the move I have shot a few weddings, a few family portraits and all for the experience rather than financial gain. During this time I have had a great ammount of stress free fun, met some amazing people and laughed out loud on so many occasions,
